A foggy day

Winter is here.
On a recent weekend getaway to Solvang, CA, I was lucky enough to wake up to a lovely morning of fog. A brisk walk to the danish shop for breakfast with my camera and voila, foggy awesomeness.

The Doors of NY

Sometimes it's the simple things! There is so much character and beauty in the city before the rush of people streaming out of the subway on their way to the office. Walking the cool morning side streets provides photo ops around every corner. This day last summer, the doors somehow stood out as my muse for the day. You just never know with New York.

Hollywood Zombie Walk 2013

The day started off like any other Saturday in Hollywood...
But then the zombies came! Rambling out of the Hollywood & Highland subway station lurched the horde of undead freaks! Their moans rattling louder then the trains below, they emerged onto the boulevard and began their shuffle through the walk of fame.
Led by Jeff, the birthday boy- the zombies made their way east on Hollywood Blvd through gangs of tourists, freaking everyone out on the way. It's always a great time when the big H&H zombie walk comes to town. This year was no different.
From young to old, brides to clowns- everyone came decked out in their bloody finest. The hard part is trying to get all the shots in that you want! Luckily, these guys keep a good pace.
When reaching Vine, crossing the street and heading back to the beginning also provided for some extra shooting time. This is definitely not a gig for the faint of heart- or the weary, you get your workout in for sure.

Passerby's always love the entertainment and take the up close and personal photo ops provided!
The horde at the end gathers just past Mann's Chinese for a group shot. If you are lucky to weasel your arm in there for a photo- you get this awesomeness! And there you have it, another year of Zombie love on the boulevard.

Echo Lake Park- Revised

For the past 2 years, the gem that is the Echo Park Lake was closed for renovations. The park was pretty much a mess! Well no longer... it's amazing. An incredible oasis for local residents.

Keep up with the goings ons of the park here.

Michael Ornstein- Let It Fly Project

Waaaaaaay back in July... the artist/actor Michael Marisi Ornstein worked on this birthday art piece for the Let It Fly Project in Burbank. What a great positive energy filled day!
This guy uses pretty much any and all mediums to get to the finish line. It was an incredible show of clarity amid chaos. Depth, levels and layers- so much happening in the blink of an eye. It definitely grew and evolved throughout the day, and it was a pleasure watching it all unfold.

The piece has come down since July, it sits alongside the previous month's art in Jimmy's driveway. If you ever find yourself in the area though, take a peek over the fence and knock on the door even- Jimmy Arone is always happy to share the wealth and give you a tour!

It's taken me awhile to get this post up, you know how summer is! But I thought it was due time since the latest- and from what I've heard, the last installment -will be going up this week. Stay tuned for the next one, I hear good things :)

Check out more of Michael's colorful work here.

The Night Market

From April through May, Thursday nights in Hollywood have an awesome and inexpensive option. The Yamashiro Farmers Market takes place from 5 til about 9pm each Thursday- bring friends and enjoy the relaxing night with some delicious treats and a view that can't be beat.
A nice variety of food trucks are represented up there along with stalls full of fresh produce and tasty cakes. There are tables and chairs along with some little nooks you can sneak off into to enjoy the sunset while sipping on some wine.
This market has been going on for a few years now and always turns out a good crowd. I finally got the chance to get up there a couple of weeks ago and arrived right at 5. The parking just down LaBrea at the Mosaic lot north of Hollywood Blvd was super easy (and free) and the buses (also free) come every few minutes to take you on the 5 minute commute up the hill.
Nibble on samples from some local food suppliers or just walk around and enjoy the view, you really can't go wrong. It almost feels like you are taking a break on a cloud and watching the city get on with it's night from a quiet and relaxing vantage point. Bonus if you live in the valley like me- there is a wonderful breeze which ALWAYS makes for a good night!
